Jim Behmer

I’m running for State Representative to bring new manufacturing jobs to Ohio, to improve our education system, and to ensure Ohioans have access to quality healthcare. Simply put, I want to give back to the community that has given so much to me. I look forward to working with you as we prepare for the 2020 election. Thank you for your support.

Manufacturing is as essential to America’s future as it was to our past. It is the best gateway to the middle class, and all industries benefit when the middle class grows. In my aerospace career I saw firsthand that after decades of neglect, we are finally seeing a resurgence in American manufacturing. In order to bring these new companies and jobs to Ohio, and to grow our existing manufacturing base, we must improve our workforce skills, our infrastructure, and our quality of life over the long haul. I will leverage my engineering and business experience to bring these new, high paying jobs to Ohio.

I believe in the promise of our country that if you work hard and stay honest, you can make it in America. Access to affordable healthcare is an essential part of that promise, and yet the United States has one of the least efficient healthcare systems in the developed world. It’s embarrassing. But worse, it’s jeopardizing the lives of our family, friends, and neighbors. I support Ohio’s expansion of Medicaid and will work to protect it. I’ll also fight for better health insurance, improved mental health care, and reduced prescription drug prices for all Ohioans.

An educated populace is essential if we are to preserve our Republic and our Liberties. I can’t think of a single societal problem to which education is not a key part of the solution. After decades of dominance, we are now being out-educated by several countries around the globe. As your State Representative, I’ll fight to give teachers the resources they need to succeed. I’ll also hold Ohio colleges and universities accountable to make college more affordable and career-driven, especially for Ohio citizens.

voting rights

Our country was founded on the belief that governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed. The most basic right is to choose our own leaders, and that right to vote is under attack. Gerrymandering has rendered many of our votes useless. New voting rules are designed to make it more difficult to vote. In the Statehouse I’ll fight to ensure future districts are drawn by a truly independent commission. I’ll also work to expand our vote-by-mail and absentee ballot systems.
